Early Career Scholarship Program
The American Academy of Forensic Psychology (AAFP) Early Career Scholarship AAFP’s scholarship program is designed to assist early career forensic diplomate applicants. It applies to those applicants who have completed a forensic psychology post doctoral fellowship approved by the American Board of Forensic Psychology (ABFP) and who are applying for the forensic diplomate within two years of completing the post doctoral fellowship. The rules are as follows:
- The individual must have completed an ABFP approved post-doctoral fellowship to waive the five-year rule before applicants may apply for board certification in forensic psychology. The ABFP credentials review officer is responsible for approving the post doctoral fellowship. The application for board certification must be filed with ABPP within two years of completing their post-doctoral fellowship.
- Four fees are reimbursed: The initial ABPP application fee, fee prior to specialty written exam, fee prior to practice sample, and fee prior to oral examination.
- The applicant pays the fee and then provides proof of payment when applying for reimbursement. Each fee is reimbursed only one time, and only for the first application.
- Once the forensic post doctoral fellowship is approved by the ABFP credentials review officer, the applicant should contact the ABFP credentials review officer in writing to permit him or her to communicate with AAFP to verify completion of the approved post doctoral fellowship and the date of that completion.
- The applicant should then contact the president of AAFP to inform the AAFP president that the applicant will be requesting the scholarship.
